Last Life Drawing of 2012

Had some successful paintings from life drawing on Tuesday 18th December 2012. The first two were far more successful than the last, but I decided to share all three. In case I don't get to post again, Happy Christmas, and may you have a successful, artistic 2013!

A SHORT HISTORY OF US

So at the weekend, I proposed to my girlfriend. I had been working on an animated history of us, and completed it last week. It came as a complete surprised to her, and her reaction was better than I could have ever hoped. This really was what they call a labour of love, and I enjoyed every minute in animating it!

An experiment in life drawing

Over the weekend, a friend of mine and one of her colleagues were doing a 'cut.' They're fitness fanatics and they build bulk and muscle, then cut right down so they're at their peak fitness. It was a unique opportunity to draw some really ripped folks, so I went along and here are some of the results. Believe me, their back muscles were incredible and a real challenge to draw.

So this was the piece I was originally going to submit to the Animation Art Show in July. While I like the piece, I didn't think it was for the show. Still, it's a little tribute to my favourite film!

MIYAZAKI for THE ANIMATION ART SHOW

On July 29th 2012, animators from all over Ireland will exhibit their work in the Animation Art Show, taking place in the Science Gallery in Dublin. This little tribute to director extrodinaire, Hayao Miyazaki is my own contribution.

TROPHY BOYFRIEND - FADED PLASTIC SPADE

So here it is. The final, edited, comped, musical video for Faded Plastic Spade by Trophy Boyfriend. Over the last two years (would have been completed quicker, but life got in the way), myself, Tom Gray and Simon Kelleghan created this video. I'm quite proud of it, especially as it's the first bit of animation I completely comped myself. Not being a compositor by profession, I'm quite pleased with the results! Must post some of the work in progress soon.

Life Drawing June 12 2012

Life drawing started with a wet fart tonight. Nothing was working. So I made the leap into the unknown and tried markers and pen. And I was pleasantly surprised with the results! Here are some of the drawings. Except for the lying-down pose, everything is 2 minutes.

THE WEIRD SISTERS

The second entry for the Boulder Media Art Blog. The theme this month was "Witchy Women." So I decided to have the Weird Sisters from Macbeth as my entry. They are Darkness, Conflict and Chaos.

BOMBER GIRL GILL

So here's the painted version of the pencil drawing I posted before. While painting it up, I was scratching my head as to what to do as a background, and then the pose reminded me of the girls you would see painted on the sides of bombers during World War 2. So I added the plate metal texture and scratches on top. A bit of lighting, et voila! GILL BOMBER GIRL!

THIS IS WHAT NO SLEEP DOES TO YA

Bit of backstory- last year I spent a blissful 8 weeks with almost no sleep. Snatching an hour or two here or there, the whole experience took it's toll, and is not one I wish to repeat! Anyway, rather than laying there, staring at the ceiling, I decided to sketch myself laying there, staring at the ceiling! Back to normal now, but I thought I'd go ahead and paint it up anyway. And here is the result.

My god, it's been about a decade since my last life-drawing class. So I approached Tuesday's class with abject terror. But actually, I came away with some all-right drawings! Here are 3. 30 seconds- 2 minutes.

This is a drawing of Sandra and her fellah Lee, which I was asked to do 2 weeks ago.

Been a busy couple of months, but there should be a couple of updates coming soon. So here's a drawing of my girlfriend Gill I did last night. She's a post-graduate support officer by day and a world-record holding weightlifter by night, hence the superhero motif. Colour, and more drawings to follow...
