Boulder Blog entry #3- HAL 9000

I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.

Here's my entry for the third of the Boulder Blog themes, 'Favorite Film Scenes.' 2001: A Space Odyssey is my favorite movie, so here's HAL, the homicidal computer, made through Macromedia Flash. Just something I did to see how close I could get it to the actual HAL.

Robot bear

Here's a character I've been messing about with for a while now. It's for a short I've been mulling over about a couple of animals who escape from a laboratory. The rest, I'm keeping to myself for now!

Boulder Blog entry #2 - John McClaine

Well, the next theme for the Boulder Blog is up, and this time it's summer blockbusters. Since Live Free or Die Hard (which looks appalling, by the way, see CRITICAL MASS! for more info) is out this summer, I thought I'd do the bane of the Gruber family, John McClaine. Color version to follow...

TROY RIDE (2007)

This is Troy Ride, part of the Shorty McShort's Shorts series on the Disney Channel. We (as in Boulder Media, the company I work for) animated the whole thing, so enjoy!

Orangaroo in progress...

This is a work in progress. Never painted in Photoshop before, so I'm just experimenting, really. HELLUVA lot better than if I was using an old paintbrush and paint though!

Who likes short shorts?

Here's a short script I wrote in 2002 while in Australia. Just thought I'd post it here to see what ye think. Any feedback is welcome!

Here are some of my life drawings from a few years back. Haven't been life drawing in a while. Guess I really should go again soon!

Day 1

Hi, welcome to my blog. New to this whole thing, so I guess I should tell you all about me. I'm 24 and I'm an animator from Dublin, Ireland. I work for a company called Boulder Media- www.bouldermedia.tv We're currently working on Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends for Cartoon Network, but I've worked on a few shorts and a pilot for another animated show (which I'm currently not at liberty to talk about upon penalty of torture!).

I'll post some of my work here as I get the chance. Other miscellaneous rants shall be posted too. Probably to do with film and music which are two of my other passions.

At the moment I'm working my way through 'The Critic' on DVD. It's a highly underrated show. The animation in it is gorgeous, some really nice motion and character animations. The writing is fantastic too. it's a shame the show only lasted 2 seasons. But as with many great shows (*cough* Futurama) it got cancelled way before it's time. Why must the good die so young?!

Anyways, enough of my ranting for day 1. Shall post some artwork soon.
